Job Summary

The Industrial Canvas Sewer is responsible for sewing and assembling canvas and other heavy-duty fabric components used in marine applications, including pontoon covers, enclosures, and biminis. This role requires expertise in operating industrial sewing machines, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality standards. Proficiency in canvas/sewing computer programs to manage patterns, measurements, and fabric cutting is essential. The ideal candidate will bring experience in industrial sewing, an understanding of manufacturing processes, and a commitment to producing high-quality work that meets company specifications.

Management Responsibilities

• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions

• Operate industrial sewing machines and related equipment to stitch, hem, and reinforce fabric components for pontoons and other marine products
• Follow detailed sewing patterns and specifications to ensure components meet required dimensions and structural standards
• Inspect and prepare materials for sewing, including measuring, cutting, and marking fabric as needed
• Use computer-aided design (CAD) or sewing software programs to manage patterns, adjust dimensions, and guide fabric cutting assembly
• Input specifications into sewing software to ensure accurate, consistent production of canvas components
• Update digital files and patterns based on new specifications or improvements to streamline the manufacturing process
• Conduct quality checks throughout the sewing process to identify any errors or inconsistencies, ensuring all work meets company and industry standards for the durability, fit and appearance
• Collaborate with the quality team to address any defects and make adjustments as required
• Complete documentation for quality checks and finished products to ensure traceability and accountability
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, promptly reporting any unsafe conditions or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor
• Crosstrain with other team members to build versatile skills in different areas of production
• Safely operate basic equipment, tools, and machinery used in the assembly process, follow all safety protocols and guidelines including the use of PPE at all times where required
• Record assembly data within computer ERP system to maintain accurate production records
• Identify inefficiencies/waste within assigned manufacturing process
• Work effectively with team members and other departments, maintaining a positive, cooperative work environment

Required Skills/Abilities

• Proficiency in operating industrial sewing machines and ability to work with heavy-duty fabrics
• Solid understanding of machines and tools used in that station
• Attention to detail
• Good manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination
• Be able to work independently and with urgency
• Takes pride in their work and the work of their team
• Committed to doing quality work and strives to improve everyday
• Basic understanding of mathematics to be able to understand dimensions on a drawing
• Basic computer skills for data entry into ERP system

Education and Experience Requirements

• High School degree or equivalent; technical certification of vocational training in sewing of textiles is a plus
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in industrial or heavy-duty sewing, preferably in a manufacturing environment
• Experience with sewing or CAD software programs for pattern design and cutting is a plus

Physical Requirements

• Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
• Must be able to see details at close range.
• Ability to sit for extended periods while operating sewing equipment and to occasionally lift and handle heavy rolls of fabric
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining focus on quality and safety
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Must be able to read work instructions and drawings.
• Must be able to work at a fast pace.
• Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by lifting, walking, bending, twisting and carrying materials.
