The Role

PlaceMKR is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead day-to-day accounting and financial operations across its investment and development platform. This role will work closely with the founders and investment team, owning accounting, reporting, and controls while helping scale financial infrastructure as the firm continues to grow.

This is a high-visibility role ideal for a Controller who enjoys operating in a lean environment and partnering directly with decision-makers.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Own the full accounting function across PlaceMKR and its property-level entities
• Manage monthly and quarterly close processes; ensure timely, accurate financial statements
• Prepare and review consolidated financial reporting across multiple entities and asset types
• Maintain GAAP compliance and consistent accounting policies

Real Estate & Investment Accounting

• Oversee property-level accounting for multifamily, office, industrial, BFR, land, and mixed-use assets
• Manage development accounting, including draws, capital calls, cost tracking, and budget-to-actuals
• Support disposition processes, including closing statements and final reconciliations
• Partner with asset management on operating performance and variance analysis

Tax, Audit & Compliance

• Coordinate with external tax advisors on federal and state filings, K-1s, and entity compliance
• Support annual audits and lender reviews; prepare schedules and respond to auditor requests
• Maintain strong internal controls and documentation as the platform scales

Systems, Process & Team

• Manage accounting systems (Yardi, QuickBooks, or similar); improve workflows and reporting tools
• Establish scalable processes to support growth and future investment vehicles
• Mentor and manage junior accounting resources or third-party providers as needed

Qualifications

• 7–12+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting role
• Strong background in real estate investment and/or development accounting
• Experience with multi-entity structures , property-level accounting, and development projects
• Working knowledge of GAAP; exposure to fund structures and investor reporting preferred
• CPA strongly preferred
• Comfortable working in a small, entrepreneurial environment
• Strong communication skills and ability to partner directly with founders and investors
• Austin-based or willing to commute to Austin, TX
