Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President

Responsibilities

  • Serve as CEO and Secretary of ASHP, responsible for administration, operations, programs, and activities.
  • Hire, fire, and manage staff compensation and benefits, under general policies set by the Board of Directors.
  • Maintain accurate records of Board of Directors and House of Delegates meetings; give required notices; affix corporate seal and attest documents.
  • Serve as nonvoting member on all Board committees and other governance bodies.
  • Act at the pleasure of the Board; enter contract terms as deemed reasonable and comply with all provisions.

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and execute overall strategic direction for ASHP and broaden its professional reputation.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee operations and continually improve responsiveness to members and partners.
  • Professional Practice: Champion pharmacy practice expansion through relevant programs and policies.
  • Financial Performance: Manage financial health and ensure longterm sustainability.
  • Member & Community Engagement: Foster relationships with members, partners, and staff; strengthen ASHPs national voice.
  • Talent Development: Build and lead a futureforward, strategic, highperforming team.
  • Innovation: Drive transformational change to advance pharmacy practice.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all regulations; manage risk and respond to uncertainties.
  • Advocacy: Represent ASHP nationally and advocate for members, patients, and the profession.

Essential Functions

  • Establish an organizational vision and implement strategies promoting innovation and professional development.
  • Represent ASHP in healthcare policy, education, and interprofessional collaboration.
  • Serve as the official voice on practice and advocacy issues; communicate across media and digital platforms.
  • Inform the Board and officers on operations and external/internal factors.
  • Plan, formulate, and recommend policies and programs that align with ASHPs mission and strategic plan.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget with the Finance Committee.
  • Safeguard funds, assets, and property of ASHP.
  • Create and adopt policies, procedures, and programs to implement Board policies.
  • Build collaborative relationships with other organizations.
  • Maintain accurate records of meetings; serve as a voting member of the Board.
  • Perform additional responsibilities delegated by the Board or officers.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BS) required.
  • Advanced degree preferred (MBA, MPH, PhD, or related).
  • Active U.S. pharmacist license in good standing.
  • Significant recent senior management experience in a healthcare system, academia, or national membership organization.
  • Experience with Board governance structures.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, fiscal management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in advocacy, public policy, or academic healthcare leadership.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational change management skills.
  • Integrity, high ethical standards, and professionalism.
  • Adaptability and initiative in dynamic environments.
  • Accountability in meeting responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Respect for all individuals.
  • Commitment to service excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Emotional intelligence and diplomacy in stakeholder engagement.
  • Effective relationships with associations, regulatory bodies, and academia.
  • Hybrid position requiring residence in the Washington, DC area and presence at downtown Bethesda, MD office as needed.
